The Karnataka Vishwakarma Association Mahila Vibhaga(Ladies Wing) came into existence in year 1995. The aim of establishing an exclusive all woman subcommittee was to involve women responsibly in all activities of KVA. The inception of the Mahila Vibhaga led to expansion of cultural activities which was primarily organized by the Managing Committee. Some of the routine activities conducted by the Mahila Vibhaga some years back were the Varamahalakshmi Pooja and Arasina Kumkuma, Indoor games and support during Vishwakarma Pooja. Gradually the purview of the committee extended. Today it works in close association with the Youth wing in organizing various events throughout the year. Some of the regular activities include celebration of Women’s day, Gurupoornima pooja, Varamahalakshmi pooja, Shri Vishwakarma Mahostava, Indoor games, Outdoor games, Navratri celebration, picnic and an annual cultural programme. The members also meet on the first Saturday of every month to discuss matters related to the committee and conduct bhajans. The Mahila Vibhaga celebrated its 10th, 15th and 20th anniversary by organizing variety of entertainment programmes such as group dance and drama which was performed by the members and supported by many other ladies of our association. In addition it also arranges an annual programme each year. Besides organizing cultural events, it also contributes to the social cause activities of the KVA. It has extended monetary help towards the Endowment Fund, Education Fund and Medical cases. It has also donated steel furniture to KVA. The Mahila Vibhaga has seen devoted and committed chairpersons who have been instrumental in the progress of the committee. They are:
Smt. Sumati Basrur had contributed immensely towards the committee in shaping its activities. She was a good bhajan singer too. Smt. Meera S Acharya was the longest serving chairperson. Her interest in music and performing art was infectious. Smt. Usha G Munnur lent dignity to the post with her seniority. A strict disciplinarian, she addressed the need to bring seriousness in the activities of the committee. Smt. Shubha S Acharya is the present chairperson and continues to carry forward the legacy of the committee. There have been several members of the committee who have contributed significantly to the growth of the Mahila Vibhaga.
